Krista Mills (Midwifery Student)

My health care journey began when I went to Western University and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, majoring in rural health care. Through this time I became passionate about public health and decided to pursue my Master of Public Health through Lakehead University. I completed this degree just days before midwives caught my first baby and I fell in love with the midwifery model of care from that moment on.
My family lived in Baden ON, a small town just outside of Kitchener, where I worked at the University of Waterloo for 10 years in various roles surrounding student success initiatives including student mental health.
Recently, we moved from KW to the Niagara area and I continued my career path at Brock University as an accessibility case manager, assisting students with disabilities and mental health challenges. While mental health continues to be a passion of mine, I knew it was time to step out of academics into a career change to pursue my true passion in midwifery. I was admitted into the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson (renamed Toronto Metropolitan University) in 2018 and have loved seeing how midwifery is the perfect combination of my previous education, work experience and my desire to support parents as they grow their families.
With two of my three babies being born at Grand River Hospital and my third baby being a lovely home birth, I am excited to return to my homeland and be a part of KW Midwifery Associates for my senior placement. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your care and I look forward to meeting with you.
