Since 1993, I have been working with families as a doula and a childbirth educator. I have a son of my own, and have attended hundreds of births as a doula, second attendant to midwives and midwifery student. I have also been privileged to attend births and working with refugee clinics around the world. In the antenatal and postpartum period, I have supported the mother and family in a multitude of ways, including: helping lesbian couples both breastfeed, supporting adopted mothers with breastfeeding, working within diverse populations (low income, cultural and language differences to my own, teenagers and young women), survivors of abuse, survivors of breast cancer, parenting multiples (twins, triplets and more), supporting families with sleep issues, poor breastfeeding latches, over/under abundance of breastmilk, support with the developmental period of PURPLE crying and with medically fragile babies. I have also been a member of a number of local boards and committees, which have directly affected the culture, perception and policies regarding breastfeeding & parenting in this region.
